Recently Dr. Stephanie Jones, Professor of Organizational Behavior at MSM, published a paper co-authored with Rafael Masters (MSM-MBA Intake 18) on a case study of entrepreneurship in Vietnam “Opening up to International Investment and Diversification”.

Channel NewsAsia was fascinated by the argument they made in the paper that Ho Chi Minh City is poised to become the Silicon Valley of Asia. As such Channel NewsAsia has asked Dr. Jones and Mr. Masters to write a commentary on this argument.

On 19 August 2017,  the commentary titled Ambitious and smart, youths in Ho Chi Minh are building Asia’s Silicon Valley has been published on Channel NewsAsia.

In this commentary Dr. Jones and Mr. Masters argue that Vietnam’s start-up scene is successful because of its young, educated and savvy people. Vietnamese talent is internationally competitive, increasingly well-educated, mobile and tech-savvy. Dr. Jones and Mr. Masters found that Vietnamese college and university students have been scoring very highly in internationally ranked tests in recent years, offering a pool of skilled labor for prospective entrepreneurs.
